Library offers free gaming events on school early release days, including this Friday

by | Oct 19, 2023 | Featured

The Hopkinton Public Library Foundation announced the funding of a series of free, drop-in gaming events at Hopkinton Public Library geared to local middle and high school students. Pre-teens and teens can play several systems, including Nintendo Switch, XBox Series S, PlayStation 4 and Oculus Quest 2, brought by One Up Games.

The events are scheduled for the five early release dates at Hopkinton Middle School and Hopkinton High School this academic year. The next event is this Friday (Oct. 20) from 1-4 p.m. The first event, held on Sept. 15, brought over 80 young adults to the library to game and have fun. In 2024, the events will be on three Fridays from 1-4 p.m.: Jan. 26, March 15 and May 10. The events are recommended for ages 9 and up, and no registration is needed.

HPLF also is providing funding for an entire year of Music and Movement programs at the library. Held monthly on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning, these programs are geared toward babies and toddlers (up to 5 years old) and their caregivers. The popular programs attract an average of around 75-80 attendees a month. The next Music and Movement program takes place Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. and features performer Julie Stepanek.
