Hopkinton Today: Thursday, Dec. 7

by | Dec 7, 2023 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

The Select Board Tuesday night awarded invitational entries to the Boston Marathon from the Boston Athletic Association to town departments and nonprofits as a main focus of its two-hour meeting. It also discussed the need to register the Marathon Committee’s trademark federally to preserve it for the town.

Select Board chair Muriel Kramer at Tuesday’s Select Board meeting addressed a fraudulent invoice sent by the owner of a local news blog that was paid by the town. “We have taken the appropriate steps to correct for the mistake and cancel the payment; we have further taken the steps to ensure that our review processes for like payments are reinforced to protect our employees and the town from similar fraudulent activity in the future,” Kramer said.

The Conservation Commission at its meeting Tuesday asked for additional information on stormwater infiltration requirements before deciding whether to issue a certificate of compliance for Deerfield Estates, a condo development off Lumber Street.

This week’s Police Log includes one arrest along with reports of a attempted home break-in, a fired employee showing up intoxicated to a Main Street business, and an individual being struck in the head with a rock after school.

Leading off this week’s Business Briefs, Stone Rehabilitation & Senior Living, a leading senior health care nonprofit, recently announced that Hopkinton’s Edward Blake has joined the organization as executive director.

Town meetings tonight include the Open Space Preservation Commission (7) and the School Committee (7:15).
