Transformers set to arrive for Main Street Corridor Project after long delay

by | Jul 23, 2024 | Featured: News, News

Town Manager Elaine Lazarus announced Monday afternoon that six of the 12 transformers needed to complete the underground installation of electrical wires for the Main Street Corridor Project will be arriving this week from Eversource.

After months of delay due to supply chain issues that frustrated town officials and residents, Lazarus stated that the transformers “have been tested and are ready to be installed.”

“This is great news for the project, where the lack of transformers has caused project delays,” Lazarus explained, noting that she has been working with the town’s partners at Eversource. “We look forward to the transformer’s installation, which will enable the team to bring the project to completion.”

She added that the remaining six transformers “will be arriving within the next few weeks.”

Eversource has been working on overhead wire installation over the past few months while waiting for the transformers to become available.

Select Board chair Brian Herr, the board’s liaison for the Main Street Corridor Project, said at the last Select Board meeting on July 16 that he had conversations with Lazarus regarding the project as well as with the companies working on the project prior to the Select Board meeting..

“I’ve reached out to Eversource and had conversations with three different people trying to move this transformer thing along,” he said. “They have been very receptive and understand that I won’t stop calling until something happens.”

Herr also spoke with Joe Amorello, the owner of A. F. Amorello & Sons, the project’s construction company. The company this month began on the brickwork, sidewalk work, curb work, landscaping and underground utility connections from the property lines to several building foundations and into buildings as required.
