Hopkinton Today for Thursday, Nov. 21: PJB looks for giving tree donations

by | Nov 21, 2024 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

Project Just Because sets up giving trees across Hopkinton

Project Just Because is continuing its mission to deliver gifts to children in need this holiday season.

Its annual holiday program looks to provide “an assortment of holiday gifts” for children as young as a month old all the way up until age 18.

Those interested in providing a gift can find one of several giving trees throughout both Hopkinton and surrounding towns.

Locations in town include the library, Town Hall, Alltown Fresh gas station and convenience store, Cornell’s Irish Pub, Hopkinton Center for the Arts and more.

“People can take a heart [off the trees], each has a single item,” said Cherylann Walsh, president of Project Just Because (PJB).

Once a gift has been purchased, it can be dropped off to PJB at its South Street location. The last day to drop off items is Dec. 19.

Walsh says the program is simple to participate in, though getting people to buy gifts for older kids can be a challenge.

“We do have trouble on that end for older children,” she said.

Additionally, Walsh encourages Hopkinton families in particular to reach out if they are struggling this holiday season.

“If there is a child from Hopkinton and the budget is hard this year, the child does not have to go without,” Walsh said.

“That child will have a holiday, whatever they celebrate,” she added.

At least the Hopkinton players hand their hands over their hearts during the anthem. The Celtics players with their hands in their pockets is not a good look.
