Flow test on South Street Wednesday could cause water discoloration

by | Jun 9, 2025 | News

The Water-Sewer Department is advising residents to be aware of potential water discoloration on Wednesday following a required flow test on South Street.

Crews will be conducting the flow test at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, and anticipate it to take approximately 20 minutes. Water-Sewer Manager Eric Carty noted the test could result in water discoloration.

“This could cause discoloration in multiple parts of town, as [it] will pull water from all three of our tanks,” Carty stated in a notice to residents.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water-Sewer Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.
