Superintendent Evan Bishop and Marathon School Principal Lauren Dubeau announced this week that Eric Mitchell, an assistant principal at the school, was placed on administrative leave “pending an investigation into an incident that occurred outside of school hours, unrelated to his work at HPS.”
“While we are unable to share additional details or discuss personnel matters, please know that this situation is being addressed, and we have no information to suggest any impact on student safety at Marathon School,” the administrators wrote in an email to school families.
“Our focus remains on maintaining a supportive, stable learning environment for all students. Plans are in place to ensure continuity of leadership and ongoing support for both staff and students during this period.
“We understand that news like this may raise questions, and we appreciate your trust, patience, and partnership as we navigate this matter. Thank you for your continued support of the Marathon community.”

The negative drama in this town seems to be never ending. It just goes on and on. It was so nice when our population was under 10,000. Unfortunately those days are long gone.

I just moved last month because I lived down the street from Marathon and drunk drivers would hit our house every few years. Last October, one of them totaled my car and favorite thing in the world in my own driveway. I loved HPD officers but for the third time, the incident wasn’t covered by the paper and the police reports were conveniently left very very short. So I was tired of being a sacrificial lamb for low crime statistics.
