The Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce is commemorating the Boston Marathon, Patriots Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States with its recently launched marathon banner initiative.

The banners are offered to chamber members to purchase and display along the first mile of the marathon route. The chamber launched its program on Jan. 26 and, according to board of directors member Cristina Morrissiey, all of the banners are sold out already.

Morrissiey stated that the banner’s design is tied to Hopkinton but features “patriotic aspects” intended to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary. According to a press release from the chamber, this year’s initiative hopes to “amplify civic pride, increase visibility for local businesses, and create a memorable visual experience for runners and spectators alike.”

While banners along the first marathon mile have been purchased, Morrissiey noted that chamber businesses still could buy custom banners for themselves. As well, the chamber is selling commemorative posters of both this and last year’s banners.

Money raised from this initiative gets donated to the 26.2 Foundation, Morrissiey explained. The money also goes toward supporting the chamber in other activities it undertakes to support its member businesses. She noted that the organization works closely with the town manager and the town’s first responders, and holds events that aim to bring attention and awareness to different business in the community.

A main focus of the chamber’s activities has been advocating for economic development in town, according to Morrissiey. “We were integral in providing support and influence on the economic development committee,” she said.

Morrissiey added that the chamber’s goal is “to make sure Hopkinton is a vibrant business community that is in turn a thriving community for the people that live here.”
