Rolling rally car parade to celebrate HHS graduates set for May 30

by | May 19, 2020 | Education, Featured Front Page

Hopkinton High School’s plan for a rolling rally car parade to celebrate the Class of 2020 on Saturday, May 30, was approved by the Select Board on Tuesday night, and principal Evan Bishop shared some additional details for the event.

The parade will leave the high school at 1 p.m. and turn right onto Hayden Rowe Street. It will turn left onto Chestnut Street, left onto Ash (with a second left to remain on Ash) up to Main Street. It will turn left and traverse through downtown, then bear right onto Wood Street. It will turn left onto Elm Street, then left onto West Main Street, back toward the center of town. Finally, the parade will turn right onto Pleasant Street, then right onto Hayden Rowe and back to the high school.

Bishop noted that the parade route was chosen because it allows the students to travel past all of the other five schools in town: Marathon, Center, Elmwood, Hopkins and Hopkinton Middle School — as well as the old Center School.

The parade can be viewed on HCAM (both television and YouTube live feed), and there will be radio coverage via WMRC 101.3 FM.

Additionally, HHS is planning an in-person graduation on Sunday, Aug. 2 — a date that was selected based on results from a survey of the 302 graduating students as well as their parents — although it’s not yet clear how that event will be run.

“Our ability to provide an in-person ceremony will be determined by the conditions at that time related to social distancing,” Bishop wrote in a recent email to students and parents. “Again, all of this will be planned with the safety of our students, guests, and staff as the top priority.”
