Senior Snippets, April 22 edition

The Hopkinton Senior Center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. For a more extensive listing of programs and services, including lunch program menus, as well as a newsletter, check hopkintonseniorcenter.com. Anyone with questions can call 508-497-9730. The Senior Center also has a Facebook page that provides updates on resources, programs and events.

Darla Duck Shelf Sitter Craft
Thursday, April 23, 1-3 p.m.
Participants will paint, assemble and personalize a personalized spring shelf sitter. Space is limited and registration is required. The cost of this program is $10 per participant.

Painting with Venus
Thursday, April 30, 1 p.m.
Everyone is invited to a mingle and paint event led by artist and instructor Amy Adams. This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to connect with others through the use of art. All experience levels are welcome. This program is supported by a grant from the Hopkinton Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Advance registration is required, and space is limited.

Land Use Director Listening Hours
Monday, May 4, 9:30-11 a.m.
John Gelcich, Hopkinton’s director of land use, planning and permitting, will hold office hours at the Senior Center the first Monday of every month. Gelcich will be available to answer residents’ questions about projects and initiatives being moved forward by the Land Use Department and other related land conservation, development and zoning concerns.

Our Time Memory Cafe at the Senior Center
Thursday, May 7, 1 p.m.
This is a welcoming gathering for those experiencing forgetfulness or mild cognitive impairment, or living with dementia, and their care partner, family and friends. The cafe is a place to socialize, share experiences and form friendships. This month’s activity will be decorating cookies. This is a joint venture between Senior Services and the Hopkinton Public Library. For more information, call the Senior Center.

AARP Driver Safety Course
Thursday, May 14, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
This driver safety course is designed especially for drivers aged 50 and older. Attendees will review current laws, defensive driving techniques and how to drive safely in an increasingly challenging driving environment. Attendees may be eligible to receive a multi-year auto insurance discount upon completing the course (participants should consult their insurance agent for details). This program is offered through AARP but does not require AARP membership. A road test is not required to pass this course. Space is limited to 20 individuals, and preregistration is required. The cost to participate is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members (lunch is not included in the cost).
