Arts Residency-Burdick

Nancy Burdick first became fascinated by quilting when working with the Amish at a children’s hospital in Pennsylvania. She dove into the art form after moving to Hopkinton and taking a class with local quilter Jean Bertschmann. Burdick now co-chairs the Marathon Quilters Guild’s annual show. “I am a pattern-follower,” Burdick said. “I like to upcycle and use scraps everywhere I can.” She took home second place in a panel challenge during this year’s show. Most of her work is done as gifts or for charity, but she has had one major sale. “It makes you giddy when somebody sees something you made and wants it,” she said.

The Arts Residency, sponsored by realtor Alan Connell, is a regular Hopkinton Independent feature. Every other week, Hopkinton Independent staff selects an individual to highlight following consultation with leaders in the local arts community.
