Annual Ice Cream Social
Thursday, Aug. 20, 1 p.m.
This event, sponsored by the Friends of Hopkinton Seniors, will feature sweet treats from The Spoonery. Guests are invited to dance with music from DJ Rayzor and Lady D.
Tie-Dye Party
Friday, Aug. 21, 10 a.m.-noon
In honor of National Senior Citizens Day, the Senior Center will host a tie-dye party. Colors, elastic bands and take-home instructions will be provided. Attendees can bring their own garment or purchase one from the Senior Center for $5. Those buying a shirt are asked to let staff know their size.
WISE Lifelong Learning Course Selection Meeting
Tuesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m.
WISE program director Rebecca Perry will provide a preview of the educational program, which expands learning opportunities through accessible courses. Available course topics include history, current events, science and practical skills. Perry will review the program details and offer a sneak peek at the fall semester’s course lineup. WISE courses will be hosted at the Senior Center every Tuesday from 10-11:30 a.m. and are free to attend.
Pottery for Beginners
Tuesdays, Aug. 25-Oct. 20, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
This nine-week course, designed for beginners, teaches essential ceramics skills. Participants will master fundamental hand building techniques including pinching, coiling and slab construction. The instructor will provide step-by-step guidance. Registration is required, as space is limited. The full session is $100. Those who don’t make it into this class will have opportunities to sign up again in the winter and spring.
Men and Retirement
Thursday, Aug. 27, 1 p.m.
This presentation focuses on the emotional issues that men may face in retirement that often are neglected, such as loneliness, loss of identity, boredom and loss of routine. Light refreshments will be offered. Those interested in attending are asked to register in advance.
Book Club
Wednesday, Sept. 2, 10:30 a.m.
One of life’s pleasures is a good book. Another is having the time to read it. At this monthly meeting, participants can relax and bring refreshments, all while enjoying book reviews and socializing. This month’s book is “Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead” by Olga Tokarczuk.
Our Time Memory Cafe at the Senior Center
Thursday, Sept. 3, 1 p.m.
This is a welcoming gathering for those experiencing forgetfulness or mild cognitive impairment, or living with dementia, and their care partner, family and friends. The cafe is a place to socialize, share experiences and form friendships. This month’s activity will be decorating cookies. This is a joint venture between Senior Services and the Hopkinton Public Library. For more information, call the Senior Center.
