The Hopkinton Police Department arrested a Hopkinton man for a weapons-related incident this past Sunday on Revolutionary Way following a car crash, according to a press release.
At approximately 1:47 p.m., HPD responded to 2 Revolutionary Way for a report of a motor vehicle crash.
“During the investigation, officers learned that a dispute had occurred earlier between the two parties regarding payment for vehicle damage,” stated Interim Police Chief Scott van Raalten. “During that dispute, one of the individuals involved displayed a black cross-body bag and gestured toward it in a manner that led the other party to believe a firearm was being displayed, causing him to fear for his safety.”
Officers located and detained the individual, later identified as Angel Luis Navarro Marrero. Upon inspecting Navarro Marrero’s cross-body bag, they found it contained a knife and a handgun magazine.
Navarro Marrero was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. He was booked at Hopkinton Police headquarters, and bail was set at $10,000.
During the investigation, officers also recovered a 9 mm Glock 43x handgun with ammunition. All items were secured into evidence.
The investigation remains active, van Raalten stated. He noted that Detective Sgt. Gregg DeBoer is “assisting on follow-up steps.”
