Children between the ages of 2 years, 9 months and 6 years are in for an amazing learning experience at Miss Tanya’s family of nursery schools, and many can’t wait for summer camp programming to begin.

What child could possibly resist a themed two-week (either three- or five-morning) session entitled “Ooey Gooey Fun”? (That’s just one of the captivating titles.)

Yup, kids get messy. But while they’re exploring, playing and creating with all things imaginable — shaving cream, finger paints, water and cornstarch — their creativity and imaginations are nurtured, fine motor skills engaged and most of all, they’re having fun in a loving, supervised environment.

“Our children love going to summer camp at Miss Tanya’s, because it’s just plain fun!” said Hopkinton parent Sarah Navin. “Whether cooking, creating art projects, having fun outside or using their imagination during playtime, they are always sad to leave.”

Teacher Tonya Herrod has been with Miss Tanya’s for 16 years, and this is her seventh year as director of the Woodland School on Washington Street in Westborough.

“Children are young for just so long,” Herrod said. “We want to capture that joy of being a child and offer a safe, loving, fun environment to nurture each individual child’s self-worth and creative genius. Our summer camp is a great ‘first school’ experience.”

The Woodland and Longmeadow schools are in Westborough. They serve families from Hopkinton and surrounding towns. Registration is first-come, first-served.

Miss Tanya’s summer camp is divided into five sessions. Each session (typically for two weeks) is theme-oriented and includes center time, open-ended activities, music and lots of outdoor play on spacious playground areas.

Programs emphasize socialization skills, independence and a focus on the whole child.

The teachers, all professionally educated and licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care, have chosen this work because they truly care about the development and happiness of children.
