David Brauninger, principal of Lt. Peter M. Hansen Elementary School in Canton, was selected as the new principal at Elmwood School, Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh announced Friday. He will succeed Anne Carver, who is retiring in June.
Brauninger and the other finalist, Hopkinton resident Tiffany Ostrander, principal of the Calvin Coolidge School in Shrewsbury, had met with faculty, community members and the School Committee on March 23 to answer questions.
Brauninger previously served as student services coordinator at Canton High School. He began his career as a special education teacher and alternative learning program coordinator/team chair at Franklin High School.
Brauninger received his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Stonehill College and a Master of Education degree from Simmons College. Additionally, he earned a Master of Education degree in organizational management from Endicott College and completed the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators’ Association (MSSAA) Leadership Licensure Program.
He lives in Uxbridge with his wife and two sons.
