Business Briefs: Local company acquired; MRMC receives top safety grade

by | Jun 16, 2022 | Business, Featured

Hopkinton-based United Solutions, a construction software reseller, recently was acquired by Aktion Associates, Inc.

United Solutions, located at 77 Main Street, has been in business for more than 37 years, advising and providing services to thousands of construction companies, according to a May 1 press release from Ohio-based Aktion announcing the transaction.

“On behalf of the team at United Solutions and our Sage CRE [construction and real estate management software] customer base, I am thrilled to be joining forces with one of the most respected Sage business partners in North America, Aktion Associates,” United Solutions owner Greg Kirshe stated. “I have known [Aktion CEO] Scott Irwin for over 25 years and have admired the way he managed and grew his business but most importantly was always impressed with the quality of the people with whom he surrounded himself. … After 37 years of running United Solutions, I look forward to becoming a member of a larger team, continuing to serve our clients and finding new construction companies in search of improving their company through our technology, services and expertise.”

MRMC receives top safety grade

Milford Regional Medical Center (MRMC) received an ‘A’ safety grade from Leapfrog Group in its spring 2022 rankings, recognizing the hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error. This marks the eighth consecutive period in which MRMC has received the top grade.

“Patient safety is our highest priority. Our ability to maintain exemplary performance on this front is only possible due to a commitment by many throughout our inpatient and outpatient settings,” said Milford Regional President and CEO Edward J. Kelly. “We take great pride in our comprehensive safety efforts.”

In other MRMC news, Kelly was selected as one of Central Massachusetts’ “Power 50” by the Worcester Business Journal. The list reflects the editorial team’s determinations of the most influential professionals to Central Massachusetts’ economy in the last 12 months. The 2022 Power 50 list was published on May 2. Kelly, who has served the hospital industry for nearly 40 years, was honored in the category of health care.

“The entire Milford Regional community is proud of Ed’s selection to this influential list,” said Milford Regional Board of Trustees Chair Laura A. Mann. “We are grateful for Ed’s many years of leadership at Milford Regional, and his talents have particularly shone during the past two years of COVID-19 challenges. Ed is a thoughtful and compassionate leader who has successfully leveraged his steady business acumen to lead our community to new and innovative growth.”

Kelly was appointed as president and CEO at Milford Regional in 2016, following eight years as president. He also served as executive vice president from 1998-2008 and chief financial officer from 1993-98. He holds an MBA from Bentley University and a Bachelor of Science from Babson College.
