Crust & Co. is about to mark one year since opening in Hopkinton. Owner Ryan Dion continues to emphasize community service and connection while providing food choices the town has come to love.

Dion opened Crust & Co. last fall, bringing decades of restaurant industry experience. Among his many achievements and awards, Dion co-founded 110 Grill, also in Hopkinton. About a year ago, the building’s owner approached Dion to take over a lease for an existing pizza restaurant and he jumped at the opportunity.

“All of the puzzle pieces came together for what I thought would be a good fit for me and my family,” said Dion. “Hopkinton is such a great community, the location is fantastic, and the town has a relatively small number of pizza restaurants.”

Over the past year, Dion modernized the space with new wall colors and added tablecloths and local artwork reflecting Boston’s sports teams. He noted the installation of three televisions as a result of customers who asked for the opportunity to enjoy their favorite sports while they dine.

“We offer so much more than just pizza,” said Dion. “Crust & Co. is a cool place to come for a quick bite, whether you are on your lunch break from work or having dinner with your family.”

Many of the menu favorites that patrons have enjoyed from the former restaurant remain, but Dion added specials such as chef-creation pizzas. Lunch typically draws local workers for a quick meal, and most hot and cold sandwiches can be ready in about 5 minutes, he said. Pizza is the most popular dinner item, especially on Fridays, according to Dion.

“Pizza is an old-school American comfort food that people grew up on,” said Dion. “It’s important not to change what people love, but giving them a new option to try is nice as well.”

Dion has made community connection a priority for Crust & Co., from hiring to its support of local organizations. Because many Hopkinton High School students work for the restaurant, he has partnered with school sports and activities. He pointed to the Class of 2027 parent committee as one example. Crust & Co. will sponsor its fundraising events throughout this school year. He encourages other organizations in the school and town to reach out for support of upcoming events and programs.

The restaurant is hiring part-time staff and looks to Hopkinton students to fill those roles. Dion wants to create a fun and kind environment for his employees.

“I’m a big believer in employing locally, treating people well and having fun at work,” said Dion. “Many of our high school staff just graduated and are off to college, so we are currently looking for the next generation. It’s like passing the torch.”
