Business Profile: EARTH Ltd. hosts Wild Adventure Programming at Southwick’s Zoo

by | Apr 7, 2021 | Business, Featured

Youngsters ages 5-16 will be fascinated with the EARTH Ltd. Wild Adventure Summer Programming at Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, and registration is open now.

“It’s so important for kids to be outside, connect with nature and learn to understand and respect all living things,” stated Betsey Brewer Bethel, founder of EARTH Ltd. and co-owner of Southwick’s Zoo. “Our programs teach environmental awareness including conservation, preservation and the impact of climate change.”

From T-Rex to Turkeys teaches younger children how modern animals evolved from their prehistoric ancestors. Students explore connections between different animal species and what makes them alike and unique.

Young adventurers experience some of the zoo’s animals up close in Animals, Habitats & Ecosystems, learn about animal survival behaviors and ecosystems, and become familiar with different habitats.

Students participating in Going, Going, Gone learn which species in Southwick’s Zoo are threatened and how each person’s actions and choices have an impact on wildlife and the environment.

Using literature, art, science and storytelling, There’s No Such Thing as a … clears up common animal misconceptions and explores which animals are part of mythology and legends across different cultures.

The popular Teen Zoology program is ideal for older children interested in learning about careers in biology, zoology or similar fields. This program also focuses on animal conservation and the impact of climate change on wildlife. Topics will include native species and coastal ecology.

In the EARTH Discovery Center, junior zookeepers learn about mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds through hands-on games and activities, meet a few of EARTH’s animal ambassadors face-to-face, enjoy arts and crafts, and train ride through the North American exhibit and wetlands.

“These are all such valuable programs,” Bethel said. “They teach children respect for nature and our different animals, which is so important since children are the stewards of our future.”

Some programs are held twice. Visit earthltd.org to sign up and learn additional details. EARTH Ltd. members receive a 10 percent discount.

An EARTH Ltd. membership offers entrance to the Zoo and supports education, conservation, and research.
