Business Profile: Parks & Rec Summer Program offers activities for all residents

by | Apr 23, 2026 | Business, Featured

From sports to field trips, the Hopkinton Parks & Recreation Department is offering something for all residents during the 2026 Summer Program.

“We try to offer as many programs as possible based on the needs of the community,” said Jon Lewitus, Parks & Recreation Director. “Our staff members are well trained, and our vendor programs are vetted. Our aim is to offer high-quality programs for everyone.”

He added, “While we focus on school-age programs, for adults we collaborate with the Hopkinton Senior Center and offer various athletic programs including popular pickleball sessions like the 101 lessons for seniors.”

A favorite youth program, the Playground Group, has been a Hopkinton tradition for more than 30 years.

“This is a summer camp program featuring field trips, sports, arts and crafts, and more,” said Lewitus. The six-week sessions run from June 29 to Aug. 7. It is divided into the Little Hillers for ages 5-7 and Junior Hillers for ages 8-12. Daily sessions are 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with an extended day until 5:30 p.m. available. Youngsters can be registered for all sessions or individual weeks.

Now in its second year, the very popular Middle School Adventure week is offered Aug. 10-14. Led by members of the Playground Group staff, this program offers youngsters in grades 6-8 the opportunity to go on day trips to various New England attractions.

Children of all ages can participate in a wide range of vendor-based sports programs like Skyhawks’ Ultimate Sports or the boys and girls basketball programs run by the Hopkinton High School coaches.

For those with other interests, various sessions from STEM activities to chess lessons are available.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, residents of all ages can enjoy swimming or boating at Sandy Beach. Season passes for the beach and boat launch are on sale now. Daily passes will be available during the beach season.

“We are open daily from June 21 through August 23, and weekends only during the shoulder seasons,” said Lewitus. He added, “We are looking for lifeguards and gate guards. Anyone interested in applying should visit our website.”

Registration for all programs is underway.

“The best way to learn about our programs and to register is online,” said Lewitus. “Registration is also available at our office, 6 Walcott Street, but the website, HopkintonRec.org, is constantly being updated with the most current information.”

Those interested also can call 508-497-9750.
