Business Profile: Shahood & Sons, family-owned for 3 generations

by | Dec 15, 2020 | Business, Featured

The Shahood family knows the plumbing industry. Shahood & Sons, Inc. was founded in 1949 by Thomas Shahood and successfully run for 30 years by his son, Mark. In 2011 Mark S. Shahood Jr., took over the two-person family business and has grown the company to a 10-person operation that continues to serve residential, commercial and industrial needs throughout MetroWest.

“I’m proud of my family’s legacy,” Shahood said, adding, “I am truly blessed to have worked alongside my two heroes for so many years.”

With an eye toward continued growth, Shahood expanded the Framingham-based company’s services in 2012 to include installation and repair of air conditioning and ventilating systems and recently opened an office downtown at 35 Main St. as a convenience for Hopkinton clientele.

Shahood wants to be a one-stop shop for customers and, especially during the pandemic, he appreciates the importance of customers making just one call and bringing in fewer service people. His workforce takes all necessary health and safety precautions, including face masks, gloves and other personal protection equipment. Team members have temperatures taken every morning.

On a personal note, Mark and his wife, Cortney, welcomed their firstborn mid-March, as the governor’s stay-at-home advisory was announced. He considered layoffs, but each staff member called to say they wanted to keep the operation moving forward.

“That was a powerful statement,” Shahood recalled, “and perfectly demonstrates the dedication and caring of our team.”

Shahood & Sons, Inc., is a Mass Save partner. As winter approaches, Shahood advises homeowners to take advantage of Mass Save’s zero-percent loans and significant rebates on heating and cooling systems if they haven’t already.

“Just give us a call and we’ll be happy to walk you through the Mass Save process,” Shahood said. “These savings may not be around forever.”

Shahood & Sons does everything from new construction to general plumbing service calls. The company’s heating experts are knowledgeable about the installation of hot water boilers, including high-efficiency, wall-hung gas boilers, traditional gas boilers, and whole-house oil-to-gas (or propane) conversions. They can install boilers that achieve as high as 97 percent efficiency with natural gas, or propane if natural gas is not an option.

Customers appreciate the professional, thorough, friendly service experienced with Shahood & Sons. There are continual comments about the company’s streamlined process, quick response time, 24/7 live coverage, and the opportunity to access the boss on the job site.

Mark Shahood is a member of the Hopkinton branch of Business Network International (BNI) and the Chamber of Commerce. Passionate about helping others, he has served on the board of the RE/MAX Executive Realty Charitable Foundation for the past several years. Since the organization’s annual 5K charity road race last month was virtual, Mark, Cortney and Giuliana, their 8-month-old daughter, participated by walking locally.

Additionally, Shahood is a third-generation plumbing inspector, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. He covers Ashland, as did his grandfather, whereas Shahood’s father, now retired from the business, works full-time for Framingham.
