Business Profile: Summer arts fun at HCA

by | Apr 18, 2021 | Business, Featured

Staff at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) have an exciting summer planned for the young and young at heart, with innovative programming in art, dance and theater. Registration is open, and need-based scholarships are available.

“This year marks the HCA’s 10th birthday, and summer promises to be stimulating and memorable,” stated HCA executive director Kelly Grill. “The Summer Arts Series includes an amazing roster of live outdoor concerts with headliners like Steve Specter, Ayla Brown and the Chris McDermott Band. No one will want to miss out.”

Children ages 4-7 will enjoy expressing themselves creatively in weeklong dance, art adventure or Broadway for Kids thematic programs. An After Arts extended-day program also is available.

The Fine Arts weekly academy caters to youngsters 6-13 who want to fully explore different visual art mediums, including watercolors, pastels, pencil drawing and more.

The Complete Artist is the perfect blend of exploring the visual arts and theater for ages 7-13, with a half-day program in both mediums. Each week culminates in a play staged and performed by the students for family and friends.

Older children (10-13) may choose either a two- or three-week Jazz Band Intensive (for wind, string or percussion) or Dance Intensive designed for intermediate and advanced dancers looking to build strength and improve technique (ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, repertory and historical dance).

Drama lovers will work on two live outdoor performances of “Willie Wonka Junior” and this year’s Summer Stock show, “Firebringer.” Teens and young adults interested in gaining summer stock experience can expect to audition in late May for these Enter Stage Left productions.

“We are so excited to welcome everyone back with music, art, theater and community activities in a safe, outdoor environment,” added Grill. “We feel like this is the perfect way to celebrate being together again!”

Class sizes will remain small and be led by HCA artist-instructors. Sessions will safely take place indoors and in tented spaces outdoors.

HCA family members and above receive a 5 percent discount on all summer programming. Visit hopartscenter.org to register, become a member, or donate. Call 508-435-9222 with any questions.
