General statement: My name is Joe Markey and I am running for Hopkinton School Committee. Maintaining and improving the educational experience for our children and families, amidst continued community growth and facility planning and construction, will be the biggest issue facing our schools in the next 10 years.

As an experienced volunteer with various town and community groups, I have worked hard to build consensus and drive progress on some of our community’s most complex challenges, including development planning, Marathon School construction and downtown improvements. In doing so, I have enjoyed applying what I’ve learned about leadership, community engagement, communication and operational improvement from fellow volunteers and from over 30 years with leading global technology companies, including the past 21 years with EMC and Dell Technologies in Hopkinton.

My wife, Bernadette, and I moved to Hopkinton in 2003, prior to our first child being born. Julia will now be a senior at Hopkinton High School, and our sons Dawson and Sean are finishing eighth and second grade, respectively.

My family and I have experienced first-hand the excellent school system in Hopkinton, along with the challenges and opportunities. It would be an honor to serve our community by applying my experience and abilities to the service of our community and schools.

Please vote for Joe Markey, School Committee, in the election June 29, 2020.
