Discoloration possible as Water Department brings Pond Street well back online

by | Mar 9, 2026 | Featured: News, News

Residents near Pond Street may experience temporary water discoloration as the Water Department returns Well 4 back to service.

Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff notified residents that the Water Department was bringing the Pond Street Well 4 back online Monday as it prepares for an upcoming season of high demand.

“Due to changes in hydraulics and increased water velocity within the distribution system, residents in the Pond Street, Spring Street and School Street areas may experience temporary water discoloration,” Fenneuff stated.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.
