Water discoloration possible after hydrant test, well activations

by | Mar 31, 2026 | News

The Water-Sewer Department conducted a required hydrant test near 66 Fruit Street on Tuesday morning that it warns could result in water discoloration.

“We anticipate this flow test will cause discolored water in the test area and on the west side of town,” Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff stated in a notice to residents.

Fenneuff also warned of discoloration for residents in the Front Street, Valentine Road and Briarcliff Drive areas as Wells 7 and 8 are returned to service on Wednesday.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released. The Water-Sewer Department recommends residents check their water before use.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.
