Fred Prince

Fred Miles Prince passed away on May 19, 2026, in Pinehurst, North Carolina, at the age of 76. Formerly of Hopkinton, Fred lived in Seven Lakes, North Carolina, with his wife, Terry.

Fred was raised in Natick. He graduated from Newman Prep in Boston and attended the University of South Florida.

An accomplished athlete, Fred was deeply devoted to his children and took great pride in being involved in their school activities. He coached them in baseball, softball, basketball and hockey. Evenings and weekends found him at Carrigan Park, Laborers Training Center, the Elmwood School gym and hockey rinks across the state. Fred taught his children and their teammates not only how to play the game but about perseverance, teamwork and, most of all, how to have fun. Years later, former athletes still would seek him out to tell him he was the best coach they ever had.

Shortly after 9/11, Fred joined the Department of Homeland Security at Logan Airport to honor the memory of a person he knew who lost his life in the attacks. Several years later, he transferred to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, where he continued his career until his retirement. Even in retirement, Fred was not one to be still. He began working at the Country Club of North Carolina.

Family, sports, music and the beach were among Fred’s greatest passions. He treasured sharing a fantasy football team with his son and loved the camaraderie and competition that came with it. Fred loved golfing with his brothers, and over the years, they shared countless rounds together on courses throughout Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Music was a lifelong passion for Fred, and he saw hundreds of artists and bands over the years. Of the many concerts he attended, one of his favorites was just a few years ago, when The Cure played at the Xfinity Center. Fred had taken family members to see the band several times during the Great Woods days, so it was especially meaningful when his son and nephews took him to see them this time.

Fred’s playlist was as diverse as it was extensive. Working outside in his yard or washing his car with his earbuds in brought him immense joy.

Fred also loved the sun and the beach. Scusset Beach, Rexhame Beach and Pawleys Island, South Carolina, were among his favorites. But as much as Fred loved sports, music, the beach and all the things that brought him joy, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. The moments he treasured most were those spent with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and family.

Fred is survived by his wife, Terry, his children, Fred Jr. (Jodi), David (Devon), Taylor (Mike) and Christina (Leigh); his cherished grandchildren, Aiden, Charlotte, Jena, Delphine, Avery, Mabel and Miles; his siblings, Elaine, Joel and Gary, and many beloved nieces and nephews — all of whom he adored. He was predeceased by his parents, Gweneth and Mertland, brothers Mert and Glen, and nephew Don.

Fred will be remembered for his faith, his dedication to Hopkinton’s youth, his ability to connect with everyone he met, his kindness, his wit, his smile and the tremendous love he had for his family.

Services were held at Fred’s church, The Village Chapel in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and at the Northborough SDA Church.
