HHS sports roundup: Basketball teams bow to Westwood

by | Feb 6, 2021 |

The good news Friday is that the Hopkinton High School boys and girls basketball teams played their games — considering all the recent postponements and cancellations, that can’t be taken for granted.

The bad news is both teams lost to Westwood.

The boys were at home, and they celebrated Senior Night by starting seniors Brian Keefe, Matt Cooper, Josh Czerepuszko, Anthony DiPietro and Ross Comcowich. The Hillers started strong, taking an 18-10 lead after one period. The lead was 28-23 at halftime and 46-40 heading into the final period.

Following a 7-0 run triggered by a block of a Westwood layup attempt by junior Nate Kasper, the Hillers had a nine-point lead with 4:42 remaining. However, Westwood scored 14 straight points and closed the game on a 16-3 run to take a 60-57 decision.

The girls, despite strong efforts from Kiki Fossbender (13 points) and Lulu Murphy, fell at Westwood, 46-35.

Both the boys (away) and girls (home) are scheduled for rematches with Westwood on Monday and then games against Holliston on Tuesday.
