HHS sports roundup: Boys ski team records program’s first victory

The Hopkinton High School boys alpine ski team made history Thursday by posting the program’s first victory in a Central Massachusetts Conference Ski League race at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury.

Senior Jackson Schlussel led the way, coming in first place in a time of 55.18 seconds, with classmate Cameron Hanna taking second (58.69). Junior Jake Lacoche came in sixth (59.75) and senior Nathan Foster finished 10th (64.51). With the win, the boys improved their season total to 972 points, moving them into first place in the standings.

The girls ski team also performed very well with a strong second-place finish, only behind Algonquin. Senior Cate Barry came in first place (57.33), sophomore Libby Herlihy finished fourth (60.82) freshman Kiara Niss came in fifth (61.21) and junior Gabi Ciri finished 16th. With the second-place finish, the girls remained in second in the season standings with 960 points, trailing Algonquin.

Also Thursday, the girls track team defeated Millis by a score of 69-12. Winners from Hopkinton included senior Hailey Tolson (55 meters, 300), sophomore Ellie Driscoll (55 hurdles), freshman Camille Perlov (mile), sophomore Emily Hayward (600), freshman Stephanie Johnson (1,000), senior Olivia Jones (2 mile), junior Kate Powers (shot put) and sophomore Keira O’Connor (high jump). Additionally, the 4×400 relay team of senior Tiffany Mikulis, Powers, Sowmya Karthikeyan and sophomore Sinead Herr was victorious.

The boys posted an equally impressive 67-17 victory over Millis. Sean Golembiewski won the hurdles and dash, and other Hopkinton winners were Spencer Smith (600), Jake Chirco (1,000), Tommy Bernardin (high jump), Matt Burdulis (2 mile), Riley Finnegan (shot put) and the 4×400 relay team.
