HHS Sports Roundup: Girls basketball falls, boys hoops hosts tourney opener Saturday

by | Mar 2, 2024 | Sports

The Hopkinton High School girls basketball team kept it close for a half Friday night but was unable to hold off host Quincy, suffering a 55-36 loss that ended their season in the Division 1 state tournament’s Round of 32.

The Hillers led 12-11 after one quarter and trailed by four at the half, 27-23. The third quarter was Hopkinton’s undoing, as the host team dominated that period by a 17-5 count to take a 44-28 lead into the final period.

Hopkinton, seeded 24th, ends the season with a record of 10-11. Ninth-seeded Quincy (18-3) advances to play Lexington in the Round of 16.

Boys basketball at home Saturday

The HHS boys basketball team, 17-3 and seeded sixth in Division 2, host 38th-seeded Middleborough in a Round of 32 game Saturday at 5 p.m.

Middleborough (13-8) knocked off 27th-seeded Reading in a preliminary-round game, 59-57, on Thursday.

Saturday’s winner faces 22nd-seeded Milford, which knocked off 11th-seeded Nashoba, 57-50, on Friday night.
