HHS Sports Roundup: Girls tennis rolls, wrestling bows out, Powers wins discus title

The Hopkinton High School girls tennis team swept visiting Bishop Feehan, 5-0, on Tuesday morning in the Division 1 South quarterfinals.

Maya Storm, Maddy LaMachia and Riley Krattenmaker won their singles matches in straight sets to clinch the match early. Sophie Kaplan and Vani Sharma won in straight sets at first doubles, and the second doubles team of Romy Zinman and Victoria Allen closed out the match with a win.

The Hillers advance to play at top-seeded King Philip in the sectional semifinals on Thursday at noon.

Later Tuesday, the HHS wrestling team ended its season with a 43-9 loss to host Milford in the Division 2 Central semifinals. Lucas Dionne and Hayes Pearson-Woodruff picked up wins for the Hillers, who were without Jake Sokol (injured in Friday’s opening-round victory). …

In the Division 1 South track and field championships over the weekend, Kate Powers took first plae in the discuss with a throw of 127 feet, 9 inches. Autumn Tumbleton finished third in the 2-mile to advance to the all-state meet. Hailey Tolson was fourth in the 100 meters and sixth in the long jump. Sarah Furlong was fifth in the javelin.

On the boys side, Ethan Champlin took third in the high jump and Sean Golembiewski was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles.
