HHS Sports Roundup: Tourney brackets released

Brackets for the state tournaments have been released, and Hopkinton High School teams are making postseason plans.

Boys basketball, which secured the Tri-Valley League Large School Division title courtesy of a thrilling overtime victory over Westwood on Feb. 14, is the sixth seed in Division 2. UPDATE: On Saturday at 5 p.m., the Hillers (17-3) will play the winner of Thursday’s preliminary-round game between 27th-seeded Reading and 38th-seeded Middleborough.

Girls basketball (10-10), seeded 24th in Division 1, will play ninth-seeded Quincy (17-3) in the Round of 32. That game will take place Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Quincy High School.

Boys hockey, coming off a Tri-Valley League Large School Division title, is seeded 18th in Division 2. The Hillers (14-4-2) will face 15th-seeded Masconomet (13-7) on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at Valley Forum in Haverhill in the Round of 32.

Girls track third at D2 meet

HHS girls track and field finished third in the Division 2 state championship meet on Feb. 17. Elyse Srodawa took second in the 2 mile. Alice Brambati took third in both the 55-meter hurdles and long jump, while Josie Hopkins was fifth in the 55 hurdles and sixth in the long jump. Kiley Locke finished fifth in the high jump. Loryn Canty was sixth in the. 55 dash. The 4×200 relay team took fifth, and the 4×800 relay team finished seventh.

For the boys, Logan Sullivan took fifth in the high jump, Sean Finnegan was fifth in the 2 mile and Drew Bialobrzeski was fifth in the 55 hurdles.

The state Division 1 swimming and diving meets were held last weekend. For the boys, Davis Peishoff finished fifth in the 100 backstroke with a school-record time of 55.07 seconds. He also took 13th in the 100 butterfly. Caleb Burke took 10th in the backstroke, while the 200 medley relay team finished 13th. For the girls, Eve Weatherhead placed sixth in diving, Olivia Scalora posted a PR in the 50 freestyle. The 200 relay was 13th, and the 400 relay swam well.

Stephen Moody finished eighth in the Division 2 state wrestling meet on Feb. 17.
