HHS Sports Roundup: Volleyball reaches semifinals; boys soccer bows out; girls XC advances to All-States

The Hopkinton High School girls volleyball team aced its first real test of the postseason on Friday night, turning away Westwood, 3-0, to advance to the Division 2 state semifinals. The Hillers won by scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-23.

Hopkinton, the third seed, next will face No. 2 seed King Philip on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Milford High School. …

The HHS boys soccer team saw its season come to a close Saturday evening with a 3-2 loss at West Springfield in the Division 2 quarterfinals.

The hosts scored two early goals (13th and 14th minutes). In the 34th minute, Owen Schnur took a Declan Mick throw-in and drove it into the corner of the goal to get Hopkinton on the board.

After falling behind 3-1, Hopkinton scored with eight minutes remaining, as Sam Vasington converted a Tora Ito pass, but time eventually ran out on the Hillers. …

HHS girls cross country finished second at the Division 1B championship meet on Saturday and will advance to next weekend’s All-State championship. Autumn Tumbleton finished fourth and Katie Callery took seventh to lead the Hillers, who were seven points behind first-place Marshfield (107-114). …

Boys cross country ended its season Saturday with a ninth-place finish at the Division 1B championship meet.
