HHS Sports Roundup: Volleyball sweeps Holliston

The Hopkinton High School girls volleyball team completed a two-match sweep of Holliston on Thursday, blanking the visiting Panthers 3-0 for the second time in three days.

Hopkinton took the first set 25-17 behind strong serving from Cathryn Leighton and Rachel Leeret. The Hillers closed the second set on an 8-2 run, capped by a Melanie Gildea kill, for a 25-19 win. The hosts opened the third set with an 11-0 run and ended it with a Kate Powers kill and a 25-18 decision.

Hopkinton (2-0) plays Ashland twice next week, on the road Tuesday and at home on Thursday.

In other action Thursday, the HHS unified basketball team dropped its season opener at Westwood.
