For residents struggling to pay their property taxes, relief is available through the Hopkinton Tax Relief Fund.

Low-income residents who are 60 years of age and older or who live with a disability are encouraged to apply for property tax relief. The deadline to apply is Feb. 21, and applications can be found at Town Hall, the Senior Center, the Hopkinton Public Library and the Youth & Family Services office.

A PDF of the application can be found through the Tax Relief Committee’s website.

If awarded relief, residents will receive tax credits that offset a portion of their property tax bill. The amount is subject to the amount of available funds and the number of qualified residents. More information on household eligibility can be found on the Senior Center’s Facebook page or by calling the treasurer’s office at 508-497-9715.

Because the Tax Relief fund is community-funded, it is reliant entirely on donations from residents and businesses. Especially with future increases in property taxes expected for Hopkinton in the coming years, programs like this will grow in importance. Residents can visit the Tax Relief Committee website for more information on donations and how to support the program.
