5. Video of Town Hall fire alarm incident leads to calls for termination, training
“First Amendment auditors” visited Town Hall in September to film and photograph in the building. Their presence in the building prompted public health nurse Simone Carter to pull the fire alarm, forcing an evacuation.
4. Protesters picket Hillers Pizza following owner’s conviction
A group of protestors organized outside of the 77 West Main Street Plaza in June calling for a boycott of Hillers Pizza after its owner, Petros “Peter” Sismanis, was convicted of indecent assault and battery and witness intimidation charges. The group has since called for an independent investigation into the Hopkinton Police Department and transparency regarding the common victualer’s license process.
3. Outbreak reporting issues in public schools prompt response from town, state
The Health Department in February reported that nurses at Hopkinton Public Schools were not reporting diseases outbreaks to the state, leading to increased monitoring by the town and calls for greater collaboration between departments.
2. New restaurant to open on Main Street as Central Public House to sell
Arcos Cucina opened up at 42 Main Street after Dennis Wilson, owner of Central Public House, sold the business in early 2025.
1. Hillers Pizza owner Sismanis to serve jail time after being found guilty of indecent assault, witness intimidation
The Independent’s most popular story of 2025 reported on the conviction of Sismanis following his two-day trial in Framingham District Court in June. Since his arrest, Hillers Pizza has been sold to new owners and Sismanis, a Greek citizen, reportedly has been taken into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.

An independent crash reconstruction team is investigating a crash involving a Hopkinton Police cruiser that occurred Dec. 26.
The latest Police Log features three arrests, along with reports of aggressive drivers on South Street, vehicles spinning in circles in the Carbone’s parking lot and a smashed mailbox.
Edward Kennedy, 82, passed away Jan. 1. He was a former resident of Hopkinton.
The annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest will be held at Hopkinton High School this Friday following the HHS boys basketball game.
Town meetings tonight include the Sustainable Green Committee (6) and Planning Board (7).
