From now until Aug. 6, Hopkinton residents have the opportunity to preview fall programs being offered by the Parks & Recreation Department.

Parks & Rec officially launched its fall program preview on July 23. Residents can review available fall offerings on the department’s Programs page prior to registration opening up on Aug. 6.

“We like to give people a two-week buffer to look at programs and plan their schedules,” said Parks & Rec Director Jon Lewitus.

There are dozens of programs for both children and adults throughout the fall. Offerings include things like youth fall sports, STEM classes, workshops for kids and teens, adult athletics and more.

Among the new offerings this fall, noted Lewitus, is youth pickleball. Parks & Rec has partnered with FAST Athletics to offer pickleball and other sports to young children throughout the fall.

Another program Lewitus highlighted is Young Adventurers — a hands-on, nature-based learning program designed for kids ages 3-5. Beginning in October and running through November, the program offers children the chance to “discover the magic of fall while developing their curiosity and creativity.” Young Adventurers is run by Maureen Sammon, Parks & Rec’s program coordinator/summer supervisor.

Lewitus indicated that nearly all of Parks & Rec’s fall programs have been added online for residents to browse, and that more will be added ahead of the open registration date. He also encouraged residents to keep an eye out for winter programs that will be advertised by Parks & Rec in the next few weeks.

“Shortly after [fall registration begins] we will actually advertise winter basketball and winter ski programs,” Lewitus said.

“We like to get those programs opened earlier than others,” he added, noting there is a high demand for both.

As far as what residents can expect for future programming, Lewitus said his department prioritizes its offerings based on community input.

“We will continue to listen to community feedback, and take that feedback to continue to expand our offerings and continue to fill those gaps of programs the community wants,” he said.

The full list of available fall programs can be found on the Parks & Rec website.
