The Hopkinton Public Library is advising residents that temperatures in the building will be elevated this Friday as HVAC service continues.

“If you are sensitive to heat, you may want to use an adventure pass to hang out at a cool museum for the day,” a statement on the HPL website notes.

In addition to the limited air conditioning in the building, parking will be limited. Residents are advised to park either at 20 Church Street or in any of the municipal parking spaces downtown.

A separate notice posted to Facebook states that Friday’s Babytime and Little Explorers program is canceled as a result of the HVAC service.

This will be the second scheduled service for the HPL’s air conditioning this month. Maintenance on the HVAC system previously was scheduled for July 1-3. During that work, the HPL cancelled programming in areas of the building where installing portable AC units was not possible.

In a previous statement to the Independent, Matt Leathers, administrative assistant for the HPL, noted that staff do not discourage residents from visiting but ask them to be aware of the heat. For those with heat sensitivities, he recommended postponing a library visit, utilizing an adventure pass or visiting another area library.

Changes to the library’s programming schedule can be found on the HPL calendar page. Information on alternate options, including adventure passes, can be found here.
