Persons with disabilities looking for a fun outdoor adventure have the opportunity to get on the water in Hopkinton this summer.

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation is running an adaptive kayaking program at Hopkinton State Park through August as part of its Universal Access Program. In partnership with All Out Adventures, a nonprofit that runs recreation programs for people of all abilities, DCR is organizing weekly kayaking programs at the park starting July 29.

“Whether you are experienced, curious, or just looking for a totally cool way to beat the heat, register now and enjoy the bliss of kayaking,” a notice from DCR states.

The adaptive kayaking program will take place on Tuesdays between 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The program dates are July 29 and Aug. 5, 12 and 19. Each date has three time slots available\. Those interested must register by noon the day before the program.

During the program, participants will travel in small groups to explore the Hopkinton Reservoir. Instruction, assistance and adaptive equipment are provided as necessary. Registration is open to people with disabilities, along with their families, support staff and friends.

The cost to register is $8 per participant, with one guest allowed to attend at no charge. “Scholarships are available for those who need them,” the DCR notice states.

Those interested in signing up can do so online at All Out Adventures’ website or by emailing programs@alloutadventures.org.
