Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

Hopkinton residents of all ages have the chance to compete and have fun at a charity badminton tournament at Hopkinton High School.

The Project Just Because Club at HHS will host a badminton tournament tomorrow at the high school’s athletic center. Registration is open to all ages, and the fee to enter is $10.

The tournament will be organized as a bracket, and the winner will receive a prize. HHS junior Nipun Chittuluru, a member of the PJB club, noted that equipment will be available for all players, but attendees can supply their own if they wish.

All proceeds from the event will directly benefit PJB and support the nonprofit’s programs for people in need.

The idea for a badminton tournament, Chittuluru said, came from a brainstorming session about what the PJB Club could do for “new and innovative fundraisers.”

“We settled on a sports tournament,” he said, explaining the idea would allow a greater age range of participants versus options such as a video game tournament. He also said that badminton was “easier to set up and advertise.”

Chittuluru said the group does not have a specific fundraising goal but hopes for a decent turnout.

“As long as it profits, we’ll be happy with it,” he said.

The tournament begins at 5:30 p.m. at the HHS athletic center. Those interested can sign up using the club’s Google Form.
