At tonight’s Select Board meeting, members will consider whether to take action on the common victualer’s license issued to Hillers Pizza.

According to a memo from Town Manager Elaine Lazarus, the Select Board’s options regarding the license include suspension, revocation, fines or no action following a hearing. The memo also states that ownership of Hillers Pizza was transferred from Petros “Peter” Sismanis to his wife in July, although the town’s license remains under his name.

Sismanis was found guilty of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 years of age in Framingham District Court back in June. He is serving the first six months of a total 2 1/2-year sentence in prison, with the remaining time suspended. The charges against Sismanis stem from an incident in January 2023 when he kissed and grabbed a 16-year-old employee in the basement of 77 West Main Street.

Lazarus’ memo, which was developed in consultation with town counsel, notes that Massachusetts General Law allows municipalities to hold public hearings regarding victualer’s licenses in the event a licensee “conducts his licensed business in an improper manner.”

“Because the manager of the business engaged in serious crimes against an employee on the business premises, one could make the argument that Mr. Sismanis conducted the business in an improper manner,” the memo states.

The memo also explains that if the current business owner submits an application to change the manager of the establishment, the public hearing process may not be necessary.

Since Sismanis’ conviction, some have called for a boycott of Hillers Pizza and its victualer’s license to be revoked. Protestors showed up outside the business in June, following Sismanis’ conviction. Others have called for the business to be left alone, noting the family has a legal right to keep Hillers Pizza in operation.
