Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

Tomorrow night, Hopkinton High School wrestling won’t be just squaring up against its Ashland rivals — it will be hoping to score a win against cancer as well.

Hopkinton and Ashland will meet Wednesday for the teams’ annual Coaches vs. Cancer matchup. The season-ending league match will raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

“It’s two great rivals in wrestling,” said HHS wrestling coach Corey Mills, previewing the match. “It’s [also] an opportunity to come together on a competitive night.”

Mills anticipates the match will be tough, describing Ashland as “one of the premiere wrestling teams around.” But for both teams, he says the fundraising event is bigger than the towns’ rivalry.

“It’s an opportunity for two rival teams to share some perspective in something we’ve all been impacted on,” Mills said. He shared that coaches on both teams personally have experienced losses in their families due to cancer.

The Hillers have started collecting donations online, with the goal of raising $2,500. The money will be donated to cancer research at the American Cancer Society through the Coaches vs. Cancer organization.

Wednesday’s match versus Ashland will start at 7 p.m. at the high school. A donation box will be available, and there will be a 50/50 raffle drawing as part of the event. For more information and how to donate online, visit the event donation page.
