Hopkinton Firefighters Local 3772 is teeing off its fundraising this year with its first ever golf tournament.

On Aug. 4, the union will host a golf tournament at Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge. The event will start early and include a dinner, in-tournament challenges, raffles and other prizes.

“Every golfer will end up with something,” said Hopkinton Fire Lt. John Krauss. He and firefighter/paramedic Paul Finneran are helping to organize this year’s tournament.

The event will help the union raise enough money to fund its community outreach and support programs.

“We’re trying to get a base foundation toward various activities,” said Krauss.

These activities include the sponsorship of sports teams in town, including Little League. The union also funds scholarships annually for three graduating seniors. But the biggest program Local 3772 funds is its annual open house.

“It’s wildly successful,” said Finneran, noting that “hundreds of kids” and their families show up every year. He also said that about 90% of off-duty Hopkinton Fire Department members will come in to donate their time.

Last year’s open house, which was in October, featured tours of the firehouse, demonstrations of firefighting equipment, firetruck rides, a dunk tank and more. Events like the open house, Krauss explained, help Local 3772 reach community members of all ages.

Registration for the tournament is $125 per golfer. Krauss noted that the union also is looking for corporate donors to sponsor the 18 holes on the course. Those sponsorships cost $150 per hole.

For more information, call Krauss at 508-922-1831.
