HHS announces tests for Seal of Biliteracy will commence this March
Hopkinton High School students soon will have the chance to be eligible for a prestigious language study award.
In the latest HHS Student Memo, principal Evan Bishop informed students and parents that the school district will be offering assessments for the Seal of Biliteracy in March. To qualify for testing, students must be a junior or senior and either have studied a world language or be a “native or heritage speaker of a language other than English.”
Students will be tested using DESE-authorized Seal of Biliteracy assessments, which will be administered at no cost.
Test dates will be separated by language. Those taking the exam in Spanish will do so on March 18 and 19. Students for French, Chinese and all other languages will sit for their tests on March 20 and 21.
The Seal of Biliteracy is a nationwide award “that recognizes high school graduates who attain high functional and academic levels of proficiency in English and a world language in recognition of having studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation,” according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
In Massachusetts, over 200 schools and districts in are authorized to award the Seal, and 11 state colleges and universities offer credit and/or advanced course placement to those who earn the award.
There will be an informational meeting for students during FLEX block in the HHS auditorium on Feb. 25. Students are encouraged to access this Google Form to express their interest in taking the exam and to sign up for the information session.
