Hopkinton now has a new public transport route courtesy of the Metrowest Regional Transit Authority.
In a recent newsletter, Town Manager Elaine Lazarus announced that as of yesterday, the MWRTA would be offering the “495 Connector,” a commuter shuttle that travels up and down Route 85. The local pickup stop is the post office on Cedar Street.
“This is an enhancement to our service,” Lazarus stated in her newsletter to residents. MWRTA’s Route 5 currently runs east to west through Hopkinton, connecting the town to Ashland and Framingham.
The 495 Connector joins together eight towns north to south through Metrowest, starting in Acton and ending in Franklin. It connects the South Acton, Southborough and Forge Park/495 commuter rail stations. The shuttle will provide stops in downtown areas throughout the route.
“The 495 Connector aims to enhance travel convenience, especially for those along the [Interstate] 495 corridor,” the MWRTA stated in a Facebook post earlier this year.
According to the MWRTA’s website, the shuttle uses the flag down system in Hopkinton. More information, including the route schedule, can be found on mwrta.com. The ride is free through June 30.
