The Hopkinton Veterans Celebration Committee will hold its annual veterans dinner next month and is promoting other upcoming events that recognize Hopkinton’s veterans.
On Nov. 11, the VCC will host its veterans dinner at the Woodville Rod & Gun Club. “We do it every Veterans Day,” said Jim Mirabile, VCC vice chair. “It’s open to veterans, and they can bring a guest.”
Members of the Select Board are invited to attend, and the VCC will invite other local government representatives. “Usually, our state representative will join us,” Mirabile noted.
The evening features the dinner, participation from local Boy Scout troops and a recognition ceremony for “a longstanding member of the town that’s a veteran,” Mirabile explained.
The veterans dinner is one of several events happening in town leading up to Veterans Day. The Historical Society plans to display exhibits of Hopkinton’s military history Nov. 8-9 and highlight a former Hopkinton resident who was a celebrated World War I general. The town will hold its Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11 at the Hopkinton Senior Center.
“It’s the town’s opportunity to recognize all veterans who have signed up to defend the freedoms that we all have … their willingness to put their life on the line to defend those freedoms,” said Mirabile.
While local veterans do make their presence known at these events, Mirabile hopes to to engage younger generations in getting involved with the town’s veteran community.
“We’d just really like the younger veteran group to really consider coming and joining us for these events,” he said.
