Good morning, Hopkinton!
For those new to the site, this post is a daily update we call Hopkinton Today. We’ll have a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights for the coming day and a video or two to brighten your day.
Hopkinton Public Schools will start its official distance learning program on Monday. In preparation, the department sent out some guidelines for students and families. Among the highlights for parents: Maintain a routine and check in so you know what your child is doing but give them their space and don’t watch their online classes over their shoulder. Also, make sure they get some exercise during the day.
Hopkinton High School will hold its Talent Show tonight, virtual style.
One more school update: The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association voted yesterday that the spring postseason will end with the sectional championship round. Of course, this is assuming students return to school May 4, which also is when tryouts and practices are scheduled to start. Games would commence May 11 and end by June 12. The tournament would be June 15-27.
In Gov. Charlie Baker’s coronavirus update Thursday he said the state’s model estimates the number of confirmed cases in the state will range from 47,000 to 172,000, with hospitalizations peaking between April 10-20. The current fatality rate in Massachusetts is 1.5 percent, lower than other areas.
Viral video of the day. Dogs find ways to pass the time during the pandemic.
