In an uncharacteristic appearance during the public comment period at Tuesday’s Select Board meeting, board vice chair Shahidul Mannan said he has been threatened as a person of color and targeted in racial profiling incidents.
The Select Board voted 5-0 to elevate Hopkinton Police Sgt. Detective Scott van Raalten to the rank of lieutenant at Tuesday night’s meeting, besting two highly ranked sergeants with his education and leadership experience.
Norman Khumalo on Tuesday night ended his 15-year role as Hopkinton’s town manager as the Select Board voted to appoint Assistant Town Manager Elaine Lazarus to serve as the interim town manager.
Leading off Independent Thoughts, the Sustainable Green Committee’s effort to make Hopkinton a more environmentally friendly community continues Sunday, April 28, with its annual Recycling and Reuse Day. Also, the Hopkinton Freedom Team and the Hopkinton Center for the Arts are joining forces to host “a series of artful events connecting our community through social justice themes.”

First-year coach Marisa Remley leads a Hopkinton High School girls lacrosse team that features a mix of experienced upperclassmen and talented freshmen, and Remley said she is impressed with her new squad.
