Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.
Hopkinton continued to deal with divisiveness over the past couple of weeks, as an accusation of racism by a Select Board member led to support from many, while others questioned his integrity. The website HopNews aggressively defended itself after Shahidul Mannan accused it of contributing to what he felt were racially motivated attacks on him. After a HopNews attorney issued a demand for an apology for alleged “defamation,” town counsel responded Monday by chastising the tone of the demand letter and insisting there is “no merit” to the argument.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Hopkinton Police Department Chief Joseph Bennett confirmed in a joint statement Monday evening that Ryan Sweatt, 36, a resident of Milford, will face a murder charge Tuesday in connection with striking and killing Destini Decoff, 26, also of Milford, in Hopkinton on April 4.
This week’s Real Estate Transactions list shows three sales, including one for $1.8 million in the new Chamberlain-Whalen development.
Hopkinton High School’s boys and girls track teams have more than 200 athletes between them, and they have high hopes for the spring season.
Town meetings tonight include the Select Board (6), Hopkins Lower Middle School Community Forum (6), Historical Commission (6) and Conservation Commission (7).
