A large brush fire Thursday afternoon may result in water discoloration, according to the Water-Sewer Department.
Water-Sewer Manager Eric Carty informed residents in a notice on Thursday that a large brush fire resulted in fire crews utilizing hydrants around Pond Street and Spring Street.
“This could cause discoloration in the system,” Carty noted. “Please check your water before using.”
Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.
Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.
