Jacqueline Scrutton Moore died on July 13, 2026, in Worcester at the age of 79.

Born in the United Kingdom, Jacqueline lived a life shaped by many places and experiences. She briefly lived in Austria and Singapore and spent her formative years in Ghana, West Africa, where her father, Stanley Scrutton, was a port manager. In 1970, she came to the United States and began a new chapter that would take her to several Massachusetts communities over the years, including Malden, Dracut, Hopkinton, Boylston, and Clinton.

After arriving in the United States, Jacqueline worked at Hood in Everett, then at Wang in Lowell, and later at The Waters in Milford. Earlier in life, she met her first husband, David Moore, while working on an Air Force base in the United Kingdom.

Family was an important part of Jacqueline’s life. She is remembered by her husband, Steven Gabis; her former husband, David Moore; and her children, Gillian Moore and Diana Luddy. She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Scrutton; her mother, Maisie Kibblewhite; her brother, Anthony; and her sister, Tonita Philon of Florida.

Jacqueline, also known as Jackie, was a longtime member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, an association that remained a meaningful part of her life. Those who knew her will remember a life that crossed continents and communities, from the United Kingdom to Ghana and from Massachusetts towns she called home through the years.

Her life reflected a wide range of experiences, steady work and enduring family connections. She will be remembered with respect and affection by those who knew her.
