Three key leaders in town positions will be leaving Hopkinton within next two weeks, the Independent has learned.
Nanci Hill, the Hopkinton Public Library’s director, submitted her resignation letter on Aug. 27. According to the library’s website, the position will be open as of Sept. 17.
Hill is on vacation and could not be reached for comment.
She served as library director for the past five years and nine months, according to LinkedIn.com. She has more than two decades of experience in library leadership roles.
The Board of Library Trustees will hear a presentation from the town’s Human Resources Department about the search process for a new library director at its meeting Thursday at 2 p.m.
When asked about Hill’s impact on the library and the community, assistant director Jak Miller revealed that she is leaving her position as well. Her last day at the library will be Sept. 4.
While Miller said she could not comment on employment issues, she had kind words about Hill.
“I know personally that we have a good relationship and that she will be greatly missed,” she said.
Miller began working for the Hopkinton Public Library in June 2021. She ascended to the position of young adult librarian four months later. Miller was promoted to assistant library director in October 2023.
Her new job will be at the Lunenberg Public Library.
“It’s a promotion, so I’m very excited,” she said. “But I’ve enjoyed working in Hopkinton so much.”
Parks & Rec director takes new job
Parks & Recreation Department Director Jon Lewitus told the Independent that his last day will be Sept. 9.
“I accepted the position of director for the [Sudbury] Park and Recreation Department,” he explained. “My kids go to school in Sudbury, I coach youth sports there, and my family is in Sudbury, so it was a good opportunity for me.”
He added that he will remain in Hopkinton as a per diem employee to help his successor transition into the role.
“Leaving Hopkinton is definitely bittersweet,” said Lewitus. “It’s been a good three years, and I’m proud of our accomplishments. While I’m moving on, I won’t be out of the picture totally.”
He added that he will submit a more detailed statement to the Independent later in the week regarding his service at Parks & Rec.
The Independent reached out to Town Manager Elaine Lazarus and Human Resources Director Jessica Lewerenz for comment Tuesday afternoon.
This is concerning. In addition to the positions listed in the article, recent library departures include the Youth Services Supervisor and the Adult Services Librarian. I hope the Town Managers office weighs in on what is happening at our library.
