Localized water discoloration possible as Wells 7, 8 return to service

by | Mar 11, 2026 | Featured: News, News

The Water Department informed residents that water discoloration around the Alprilla Farm Road Wells 7 and 8 is possible as they were returned to service on Wednesday.

Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff stated in a notice that residents in the Front Street, Briarcliff Drive and Connelly Hill Road areas may experience temporary water discoloration as the Alprilla Farm wells come back online. The two wells are returning to service “in preparation for the upcoming high-demand season,” Fenneuff explained.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.

An observation and my reaction to the written words in the announcement. Kind of a contradiction here. How can there be a high demand season? The mandatory water use ban that we are in and probably all year prevents outdoor use. It would lead me to think demand should in fact be more stable when under a ban for outdoor use, as long as it is enforced…. Plus a lot more people are out of town on vacations in summer. Eagerly awaiting the announcement of continuing the water ban.
